What is a Dental Emergency?

At Twinkle Kids Dentistry, we know that dental emergencies don’t always happen during office hours. Whether it’s a sudden toothache, a broken tooth from a fall, or a knocked out permanent tooth, we are here to provide immediate, expert care. Our team is trained to stay calm and gentle during high stress situations, ensuring your child feels safe and comforted while we work to stabilize their smile. We prioritize emergency cases to ensure that your child receives the relief they need as quickly as possible.

Benefits of Emergency Care

Immediate Pain Relief

A dental emergency can be frightening and painful for both the child and parent. Our emergency services provide rapid relief for issues like broken teeth, severe aches, or gum injuries. We prioritize these urgent cases to ensure your child is seen quickly, their pain is managed, and their smile is stabilized.

Preserving Natural Teeth

In many emergencies, such as a knocked out tooth, time is the most critical factor in saving the tooth. Our team provides expert phone guidance and immediate clinical care to increase the chances of a successful repair. We act fast to protect your child’s natural smile and prevent the need for more invasive extractions.

Parental Peace of Mind

When the unexpected happens, you should not have to navigate the situation alone. We provide clear, calm instructions on how to handle dental trauma at home before you even reach our office. By providing a reliable safety net, we take the panic out of the situation and ensure your child receives expert care.

Our Dental Emergency Services

Treatment for Knocked Out Teeth

If a permanent tooth is knocked out, time is of the essence. We offer immediate re-implantation services and follow up care to save the natural tooth. For baby teeth, we focus on ensuring the underlying permanent tooth is not damaged and managing any discomfort or bleeding in the area.

Repairing Cracked or Broken Teeth

Falls and sports injuries often result in chipped or fractured teeth. We use high quality, tooth-colored bonding materials to repair the tooth’s structure and appearance. This not only restores your child’s smile but also protects the inner nerves from bacteria and sensitivity.

Severe Toothache Relief

A sudden, throbbing toothache is often a sign of deep decay or an underlying infection. We perform thorough exams and digital X-rays to find the source of the pain. Whether it requires a simple filling or a pulpotomy, we act quickly to eliminate the infection and provide lasting relief.

Dental Abscess & Infection Care

An abscess is a serious infection that can cause swelling in the gums or face. We provide urgent treatment to drain the infection and prescribe the necessary antibiotics. We ensure the infection is cleared completely to prevent it from spreading or affecting your child’s overall health.

Soft Tissue Injury Management

Injuries to the lips, tongue, or cheeks can bleed heavily and look quite scary. We provide expert care to clean the area, control bleeding, and determine if sutures are necessary. Our team ensures the soft tissues heal correctly while checking for any secondary damage to the teeth or jaw.

FAQs

First, find the tooth and hold it by the crown (the top part), not the root. Gently rinse it with water if it’s dirty, but do not scrub it. If possible, try to place it back in the socket. If not, keep it in a small container of milk and call Twinkle Kids Dentistry immediately.

If your child is in severe pain, has uncontrollable bleeding, facial swelling, or has lost a permanent tooth, it is a dental emergency. If a tooth is just slightly chipped and not hurting, it may be able to wait until the next day, but you should still call us for guidance.

Not always, but we do offer sedation for children who are extremely frightened or in significant pain. We will assess your child’s emotional state and the complexity of the injury to determine if “laughing gas” or another form of sedation is needed to make the visit trauma-free.
