What to Expect at the First Visit

At Twinkle Kids Dentistry, we are dedicated to making initial visits fun, educational, and totally stress free for both children and parents. From the moment you walk through our doors, we take the time to ensure your little one feels comfortable, safe, and excited about their new dental home.
What to Expect: The 3-Step Smile Adventure
Welcome & Acclimate
We start every first visit with a relaxed office tour to introduce your child to our team. We let them explore the sights and sounds at their own pace, turning an unfamiliar environment into a fun adventure before anywork begins.
The Gentle Exam
We perform a comprehensive check of your child's teeth, gums, and jaw development. We use "Tell-Show-Do" techniques and kid friendly words to explain everything, making sure your little one feels totally in control.
Parent Partnership
After the exam, we sit down with you to discuss our findings and answer all your questions. We provide personalized tips on brushing, diet, and habits, ensuring you have the knowledge and tools to keep your child’s smile healthy at home.
How to Prepare Your Child at Home
We want your child to arrive feeling brave and ready! Here are three easy ways to set them up for success:
Keep Words Positive
Kids easily pick up on their parents’ emotions. Avoid using scary words like “hurt” or “shot.” Instead, tell them the dentist is a friendly helper whose only job is to count their teeth and make their smile strong.
Play Pretend Dentist
Practice at home by having your child open wide while you count their teeth with a toothbrush. Then, let them be the dentist and count your teeth or the teeth of a stuffed animal to make it feel like a fun game.
Read & Watch Together
There are wonderful books and shows about visiting the dentist, like Daniel Tiger or Peppa Pig. Enjoying these stories together normalizes the experience and shows that going to the dentist is a fun, easy activity.
What to Bring With You
To ensure a seamless, relaxing check in process, please bring the following items to your child’s first appointment:
New Patient Forms (If you haven’t filled them out online ahead of time).
Insurance Card & Photo ID of the primary policyholder.
A List of Medications your child is currently taking.
A Comfort Item: Feel free to bring their favorite blanket or small stuffed animal to hold during the exam!
(Tip: Arriving 10-15 minutes early gives your child extra time to play with our toys and settle in before being called back!)
