What is Restorative Dentistry?
Restorative dentistry is the art and science of repairing teeth that have been damaged by decay, chips, or injury. At Twinkle Kids Dentistry, we don’t just “fill a hole” we restore the function, strength, and beauty of your child’s smile. We prioritize biocompatible materials and conservative techniques to save as much of the natural tooth structure as possible.
The Benefits of Restorative Dentistry

Preserving Natural Structure
Protective treatments like dental sealants and fluoride strengthen the enamel and block out harmful bacteria. These steps act as a shield, preventing decay from starting and keeping the natural tooth structure perfectly preserved.

Pain Relief Through Prevention
Regular cleanings remove the hardened plaque that causes gum irritation and sensitivity before it leads to a painful cavity. By staying ahead of issues, we ensure your child’s dental visits remain easy, and completely "ouch free."

Protecting Development
Our Bi-annual exams monitor jaw growth and the transition from baby to adult teeth. Early intervention helps us guide healthy oral habits and catch developmental issues early, setting the stage for a straight, confident smile.
Our Restorative Dentistry Services
Tooth Colored Fillings (Composite)
We use durable, BPA free resin that is color matched to your child’s tooth. These fillings bond directly to the tooth, making them strong and virtually invisible.
Pediatric Crowns
When a cavity is too large for a filling, we use a crown (a “tooth hat”) to protect the remaining structure. We offer durable stainless steel and aesthetic white crowns.
Pulpotomies (Baby Root Canals)
If decay reaches the pulp (the nerve), we perform a gentle procedure to remove the infected part of the nerve, saving the tooth from extraction.
Space Maintainers
If a baby tooth is lost too early, we custom fit a small appliance to hold the gap open so surrounding teeth don’t drift into the space.
Tooth Extractions
While we always strive to save every tooth, sometimes an extraction is the healthiest choice for a severely damaged or infected tooth. We perform extractions with the utmost gentleness, ensuring your child feels safe and comfortable throughout the process to prevent any future dental anxiety.

FAQs
Why should we fix a cavity in a baby tooth if it’s eventually going to fall out?
Baby teeth play a critical role in your child’s development by helping them chew properly and speak clearly. Most importantly, they act as “placeholders” for adult teeth. If a cavity is left untreated, it can lead to pain, infection, or the premature loss of the tooth, which often causes the permanent teeth to grow in crowded or crooked.
Is the numbing process scary or painful for children?
We go to great lengths to ensure your child feels zero discomfort. We use a topical numbing gel (which we call “jelly”) to desensitize the area before gently administering a local anesthetic. Our team is trained in “distraction techniques” and kid friendly language to make the process feel quick and easy most kids don’t even realize they’ve been numbed!
What materials do you use for fillings and crowns?
At Twinkle Kids Dentistry, we prioritize safe, biocompatible materials. Our fillings are made of a mercury free composite resin that matches the natural color of your child’s teeth. For crowns, we offer high quality stainless steel or aesthetic white zirconia, both of which are incredibly durable and designed to withstand the wear and tear of a growing child’s diet.
